Ready, set, CAST ON!

I got sorted into Slytherin for the Ravelry HP Cup. *waves to kittywiskers* I see you over there, in the Hufflepuff common room! Can't wait to get started.

I am enjoying The Boy. *devilish grin*. Lots.

Been doing a lot of end-of-year contemplation, which I'm sure will end up in the obligatory New years post in a day or so.

personal randomness

I forgot how good I am at avoiding everything if I want to. Today I've avoided bathing, exercise, dressing myself - I almost avoided vegetables, completely avoided fruit and I haven't done anything except watch old seasons of the muppet show, play on my computer, and well, I guess I did brush my teeth.

I needed this escape. Christmas was wonderful and overwhelming and everything I wanted. But during any time really, I forget that I need time to myself. And I really needed it.

I always seem to lose my thoughtful ammunition halfway through these posts. The end of the year was good. The last couple of months - usually because of bad things happening, I've reconnected with people I'm close to. Mike is still away working, which is hard..but when he comes home we can start over with a new plan and try to get moved in together.

I can't believe it's so late already - stupid early sunset. The day still has several hours left and I'm ready for bed and don't want to do anything tomorrow.

meh..maybe this should wait for another time.

yup more quizzy fun

Answers to [info]wulfstan 's 5 questions

1. What first caught your attention about fencing?
my brother obviously enjoyed it and it looked neat.

2. Do you have any goals for yourself in the SCA? If so, what are they and what are you doing to achieve them?
To have fun.
I wouldn't mind getting a 'ship'...but don't see myself doing anything with that goal in mind.

3. What are some of your life goals - where do you see yourself in 10 years and what are you doing now to get there?
I don't know atm...things are being re-evaluated as life has not been what I expected thus far.

4. What is your all-time favorite book?
It varies...maybe "Ride the River" by Louis L'Amour

5. What song really speaks to you right now and why? (A YouTube link so I can hear it would be nice, too!)
"Someday" by Nickelback
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dP6TdAoeIJw
'cause I have no clue when...and sometimes it feels like my life is happening and I'm left on the sidelines.

christmas

I don't care this yar, but I have enjoyed a few days on the Oregon coast with my mom's side of the family. I never liked spooky stuff as a kid with the exception of old military bases and tday I relived that by running around Fort Stevens. Now we're on our way to a lovely b&b in Long Beach for a few days of alone fun. :)

Mix and match!

Kevin proposed to Joan. Yes, if you do the math, you'll realize that we only broke up 2.5 months ago. That is probably the ring he was purchasing for me. However, I'm okay with it. We all know how I feel about the "M" word, and that was what he wanted.

In other news, there may or may not be another boy on my horizon. I'm rather twitter-patted with him, so we shall see.

Rushing to work, and all that jazz.

tipsy holiday post...

so, wine is made to enjoy -right? and I can still walk. The world is just a little woggly - that's all. :D

Auntie went to bed early, so I got my Bogie fix with "Dark Passage" and am watching "the Holiday" now.

No work till Monday - and my boss is awesome. Not only did he give everyone a gift cert. for the grocery store - he gave us a paid day off too :)

Cooking for Auntie tomorrow...then lunch/tea with the ladies of the family - assuming I can convince Grammie to budge out of her house and join us. Is this where Parnell/O'Byrne decendent matches Parnell for stubborness? We'll see.

Hopefully attending the Christmas caroling by candlelight @ church tomorrow night - other than that, nothing much till time w/ a gf for the Robinm Hood pantomine on Sunday - should be good :

ideas?

I'm trying to think of a holiday/treat/away time for me in January. Local-ish, relaxing & fun - and in the budget. Likely for me on my own, as I'm not sure who will a) have time or b) have the $ to go with me.

So far ideas include:

- flying to Kelowna to visit friends
- day spa (but it would need to be a good one)
- find a friend to spend a day or two with.
- visit the massage school spa

any other suggestions?

I wasn't going to make new garb for 12th Night but I've finished my moorish garb (although it will be better when I've added trim) and I nearly finished a new doublet today. I need about 2 hours to finish the doublet and about 5 hours to do the blackworked shirt to go with it. I will look AWESOME!!! in that particularly-unattractive-to-the-modern-eye period way!

the Christmas wish meme

The premise is: Post ten things that you dearly want, be it something tangible, or something intangible, but it has to be something that you truly want. Then the theory is, that your friends do the same. Everyone looks at each others' lists, and if they are able to provide it for someone else, they do so. Kind of the premise of "one person's trash may be another person's treasure," you might have someone's dear christmas wish floating around your house, in your storage unit, un-used. Money is tight, and sharing is caring:) my wish list )

cheese!

I've finally found the cheese I fell in love with in Sweden!
Rephrase: I've found a brand which does the same sort of cheese, and it's available around here. The type of cheese is an extra-aged Emmental, and Finlandia has started carrying that under their specialty "Black Label". Check out the website here.

See, when I came back to the States and looked for 'Emmentaler', all I found was Emmi-Swiss, not at all the hard, sharp stuff I'd loved. But now! oh now....

Yes, I'm excited about cheese. Oh, and for cheddar-lovers, try Finlandia's Double Gloucester. It's amazing. I mean, Finlandia's hardly the last word in cheese, but they're quite good, and the Gloucester is sooo good.
